CBD Gummies – Just a Gimmick?

CBD gummies are on the rise, and you’ve probably seen them in your local health stores, but do they actually work or are they just a gimmick? Our guide to CBD gummies will take you through everything you need to know about CBD gummies and will hopefully give you the confidence to make your first purchase.

Are CBD gummies just a gimmick?

At present, there’s limited hard science to back up the effectiveness of CBD gummies and other CBD products, although many people do report positive results against various ailments such as insomnia, stress, and anxiety.

Similarly, traditional healers have been using terpenes, a compound of CBD products found naturally in herbs and plants, for thousands of years as antibiotic and antifungal treatments, as a decongestant, to aid sleep, and as a painkiller.

What are CBD gummies?

CBD gummies are gummy, or jelly, sweets that are either infused with or sprinkled with CBD isolate. CBD gummies are often produced in the shapes of your favourite childhood gummy sweets like worms and bears, and will have optional flavours such as strawberry and orange. Some brands also include added benefits such as multivitamins.

Do CBD gummies work?

There is limited scientific evidence proving how CBD gummies benefit the body, although there are varying degrees of anecdotal evidence that suggests CBD products benefit conditions such as insomnia and anxiety.

In comparison to other CBD products such as CBD vape oils or CBD tinctures, gummies are similarly potent and contain many of the same ingredients. The only real difference is the consumption method.

At B3 Labs, it’s our belief that CBD gummies that are infused with CBD isolate are more effective than those sprinkled with CBD isolate.

Benefits of CBD gummies

Whilst studies* of the benefits of CBD are still in their infancy, consuming CBD as gummies has a number of convenient benefits , particularly when compared with other CBD products:

  • Many CBD gummies have the added benefit of containing multivitamins to aid in overall wellbeing.
  • CBD gummies are much easier and more convenient to consume than CBD vape oils, e-liquids, or tinctures.
  • With CBD gummies, you can be confident that you’re taking the correct dosage.
  • Many people don’t enjoy the taste of unflavoured CBD products. CBD gummies are often flavoured with fruity favourites such as strawberry and orange.

Studies* have shown that CBD helps to support inflammatory function, focus and concentration, pain management, sleep, and general mood. This is often somewhat attributed to the terpenes within CBD, as these terpenes have been used by traditional healers for centuries to varying degrees of success. Learn more about benefits associated with terpenes in our blog about what CBD is.

Are CBD gummies legal?

CBD products are legal in the UK provided that they are sold as a food supplement and contain less than 0.2% THC (the psychoactive compound of the cannabis plant). CBD products must also be approved by the Food Standards Agency prior to going to market.

Can CBD gummies get you high?

CBD gummies and other CBD products do not provide a “high”. To be legal in the UK, CBD gummies must contain less than 0.2% THC, the psychoactive compound of cannabis that provides the “high”.

Whilst there is anecdotal evidence that CBD products often have calming and sedative properties, there is no risk of psychoactive effects in legal CBD products in the UK.
